Question

What are the differences between Scriptura version 19.04 and Design & Compose 21.04 ?

Answer

  • From 5 server components (Managements server & Cassandra, Process server, Resource server, and Frontend server) to just 1

    • Some functionality has been moved to cloud based solutions (or is in process of being moved)

    • Results in a much easier setup (almost runs out-of-the-box)

    • No dependency anymore between servers. Each one runs 100% individually

      • Easier automated installs

  • Document Flow no longer depends on a Database

    • Much easier setup of Document flow designers or additional servers (no DB-admins dependency)

    • Easier deployment procedure

  • An environment no longer depends on a Database (licenses, security related tables, …)

  • Simplified management of users, groups, access rules, …

    • Security has nearly no use anymore since there’s no longer a browser based UI for end users

    • Security defined using an xml file

  • Faster template designer

    • No more waits which were often noticed in 18.04 and 19.04

  • Removal of Frontend Server

    • No more Scriptura forms / X-forms (To be replaced by “web designer templates”)

    • No More LiveDocs (To be replaced by “web designer templates”)

    • No more Orbeon based web UI (To be replaced by a custom application)

  • Removal of Resource server

    • Very often used by LiveDocs projects only

  • Removal of Cassandra Server

    • Used as storage mechanism for Resource server (which no longer exists)

    • Used for storage of Remote configuration (which no longer exists)

  • Management server and Process server merged into 1 component

    • Called “The” server

  • Log files

  • Removal of Remote Configuration

    • Most customers found it too complicated to setup / understand

    • To be replaced by “per server configuration”, as it used to be prior to version 8.0

    • Since less servers are needed in 21.04, the need for remote config becomes limited

  • License system

    • Designer licenses are retrieved from the Cloud or from a self-hosted server

    • No more credits per minute for servers. Everything became volume based (based on number of documents produced).

    • No more modules in license

    • Results in less hassle to manage/change license assignments

  • Support for

    • Java 11

    • Oracle Database 19c

    • MS SQL Server 2016 SP2, 2017 and 2019

  • Some things are renamed

    • Program installation directory is by default “Unifiedpost/Design-Compose-21.04.0”

    • Runtime directory is by default <userhome>/design-compose-21.04

    • All programs renamed

    • On windows

      • Windows service is now “Design & Compose SHE 21.04.0 Server Service”

      • No more local user “Scriptura” created, but “DesignCompose”

      • Program icons have changed

  • More Document Flow steps added to the base install

    • (S)FTP steps

    • Resources related steps (copy, delete, remove, list)

    • Some very popular steps (HTTP, UUID)

    • Discard Flow Objects Step

    • Set Permissions step

    • Page Information step
